Near Infrared vs Far Infrared Saunas

The Difference is in the Body's Response

When deciding which sauna to purchase for sauna therapy keep this in mind: Photomedicine utilizes visible, near and a few mid infrared wavelengths for healing, but does not use far infraredAll but 5 of the medical studies being quoted across the internet for Far Infrared healing benefits are in the visible and near - not far infrared range.

PUBMed summarizes and scrutinizes the currently published evidence of far infrared, stating that not one of the 5 studies of far infrared light contained level 1 evidence of healing benefits and are even weaker due to the small sample size.

To be fair: no published studies exist for near infrared sauna therapy, but numerous studies on the health benefits of LED infrared therapy - particularly in the visible, near and mid infrared wavelengths.

In one LED infrared study, a controlled trial published by the National Institute of Health, it was determined that light in the spectral range from 600 to 1300 nm is useful for promoting wound healing, tissue repair, and skin rejuvenation.

Near infrared saunas, like the Sauna Fix, produce 550-3400 nanometers of light. Thus, delivering frequencies that are scientifically proven in multiple scientific studies to reduce inflammation, pain, and speed up healing and circulation. 

Four thousand nanometers of light and greater, used in far infrared saunas, have no direct biological response with our cells or organs. Far infrared light simply heats up the water molecules in our body and creates heat stress, and that is why such high frequency light is used in far infrared saunas.  

When it comes to near infrared therapy. scientists have found that it doesn't matter what kind of delivery device is used to get near infrared light to the body. It is the body's biological response and absorption of the light that make near infrared sauna treatment more effective.

Biological response to light is because naturally occurring endogenous chromophores in cells or tissue absorb light energy at very specific wavelengths.

Photo biological transformation takes place when light energy is deposited in tissue as photons and during absorption are converted to chemical, kinetic or heat energy in body tissues and circulated by the body's vascular system. 

For the best infrared light healing benefits, use the correct infrared wavelengths to achieve the desired effect. Because near infrared saunas operate at an optimum frequency range, they trigger more positive biological responses.
